That moment at the start of a dance, when I slowly embrace him, slowly begin to share an axis with him, slowly close my eyes…letting the rhythm surround us before that first step when our chests and hearts meld…that first sigh…
It makes up for those strange nights when I’m “off” for rest of the tanda which consists of me being totally out of it and just not quite feelin’ it. Man, was it the moon or something? Has anybody else out there had trouble dancing and connecting lately? I swear, every guy I danced with last night led me into a chair at some point - and these are fabulous dancers who are excellent at navigating. Everyone I talked to at the milonga last night, when I mentioned feeling a little off, said, “yeah you know what? I’m feeling a little off too!” Was the dance floor tilted or something? I dunno.
But I did have a lot of good first moments with each tanda, and I think I’ll happily remember those.
Oh! Julio and Corina are in town and I’m excited to see them… will post on that later (yes Planchadora, I will try to take pictures!)

Indeed… The first approach, the expectation of how we will feel the other person in our arms, the silent dialog when we share the embrace, is one of the best things in tango.
The Moon… great post!
Tina, yes, indeed. I think swing moods can spread throughout the attendants of a milonga in really strange ways. There may be nights in which just everyone seems to be “off”.
And then again… there are those nights when everyone seems to be into *it*. And in those days, the expectation of the embrace is just a joy.
