See what happens when I spend my life travelling? I don’t get to know some of the people in the Tango communities in the States. And when I am here I’m pretty selective of my milongas (I try to stay traditional when I can.)
To catch myself up with what’s going on these days, I was surfing around allseattletango.com and noticed that there is going to be a fundraiser milonga for a dancer who I don’t know but I’m sure I must have seen before, Christina Ladas, who has a kidney disease she’s trying to treat. (Go here for details on the fundraiser milonga.) Her husband Homer is the founder of a non-profit organization I haven’t heard of before, Project Tango.
In checking out their website, I learned that Project Tango has established a health fund for Tango teachers. I can’t begin to express how excited I am about that. People (like me and several of you readers) who live their passions and choose to make their passion a profession, regardless of what that passion is, sometimes don’t have access to the most inclusive health care plans, and well - we can’t always be prepared for what’s to come. I’m sure Christina wasn’t expecting to be diagnosed with a kidney disease. I’d encourage all of you to visit Project Tango’s website, and if you feel moved to do so, make a donation. If you’re in Seattle at the end of June, you might want to stop by the milonga.

Although we have free healthcare in Canada, there is a fundraiser milonga tonight that will be donating all proceeds to the Tango Project Fund.
