In this blog entry by TangoCherie, she talks about how it can be kind of hard to find anything green (other than salad) at Argentine restaurants. And how! I had a tough time digesting during my first couple weeks in Buenos Aires, until I was able to figure out how to get some extra vegetables in there. If you know where to look, there’s actually plenty of variety - but it takes time, and can cost a little more money. But it’s well worth it - these people can cook!
But in general, unless you know your way around the verduleria, it is tough in Buenos Aires (at least in restaurants) to find the variety of vegetables that I’m used to in Italy and in Seattle. Not that I’m complaining of course - the food is wonderful in Argentina, so fresh and yummy. But just like Cherie, I like my green.

Tina,
Indeed!! And I must add that at the other side of the Rio de la Plata, in Uruguay, the story is the the same! I used to have to visit Montevideo a lot (for work), and I remember a colleague of mine, who was a vegetarian, and just had the toughest time finding where he could have a satisfactory meal … and no, I am not trying to compare the relatively small and cozy Montevideo with the much larger and cosmopolitan BAs, even if the food culture is so similar…
The food, the food!!
Donde estan las verduras??
Even the restaurant salads are beige (except for when there’s lettuce.)
Thanks for comiserating!
LOOOOVE the shoes!! Btw your spooky story: really spooky. I’m a believer in spooky things. Your Buenos Aires photo video was great too. I didn’t know it was so beautiful down there!
