Gypsy souls are often misunderstood. I’ve had people say “Oh what a nice extended vacation you’re on!”
Vacation? Vacation from what?
Vacation is an escape - and I don’t feel like I am escaping. I am home. What is home? My home is myself - that’s the life of a nomad. My home is wherever I am. Right now that’s Buenos Aires. I’m working while I’m here - almost every day. If I were on vacation I wouldn’t be working. I have picked up my life and moved it to a different place for a while. I am doing the exact same thing I did in Seattle. Same job, same obnoxious alarm clock at 6 in the morning (just ask my roommates), same worries, same bills (but different place to rent), everything is the same except there is more Tango here and I am speaking Spanish on the street.
Nomadic souls aren’t on vacation when we move somewhere for a while. Believe me, I have seen to it that I have some time off while I’m here, but I insist that I am not on vacation and I’m a little tired of hearing it. I’m too productive (work-wise) to be on vacation. Just because I’m freelance doesn’t mean my job is easy or stress free. And just because I’m in a beautiful place and not in the United States doesn’t mean I’m on vacation. And just because I’m freelance and I travel doesn’t mean I have a lot of money. If that were the case I wouldn’t be living in Once, would I?
Someday people will understand us nomads. I have faith. ![]()
One thing I know for sure is that I am happier than ever.
Now, back to that translation…

wow, thanks for summing up my thoughts exactly
I love it. I feel like I’m learning more that I can live life on a consistent changing stream of locations and have more than one “home” - b/c “home” is more where my life is at that moment and what is in my heart, than “where” i am
Well, type on, lady!!!! I’m envious you can work and pursue your life in such an inspired location right now!
great post my friend….people think that just because you are out of the US you are sunbathing and drinking Mai Tais in a pool facing the ocean.
I am proud of you! Only you know where your home is…no one else can tell you differently. kisses baby!
Yes, I confirm the alarm clock at six - it is VERY obnoxious:) especially when one comes home at five… but we understand she’s a working girl:)
Just because you’re freelance means that sometimes you have to work even harder because there’s no “company” to rely on. It is very hard being self-employed, I know. Good for you for being able to take your work with you.
Tina, I can “hear” it in your posts. You sound so good. . .
same here, i hear you — also with a job that can done anywhere around the world, and freelancing. everyone tells me how “lucky” i am to be taking pictures for a living, i must feel like i’m “on vacation while i work”.
i look at them and stare…
