If I want to wear my milonguera badge of honor while here in Buenos Aires, I’ve got to learn to dance what the Argentines call “Rock & Roll“. Or maybe it really is called Rock & Roll. I’ve never ventured into this particular style of dancing, so I’m clueless.
I danced it for the first time last night with the porteña who shared my table, and it was a blast.
Now to search for lessons…
Here are Gabriel Misse y Alejandra Martiñan dancing an impressive number. I should tell you, however, that usually in the milongas I go to they play bands like Dire Straits for people to dance Rock & Roll to.

Ahaha! I think I know why they call that “rock&roll”: the French influence! We dance that type in France, and since Paris is where Argentine Tango has started outside of Buenos Aires, and it is still very alive, I imagine there has been cultural exchanges of some kind? So, as to why do French people dance it like that, that’s another story…
My! My! It looks like Jitterbug from the 40’s
Yes, jitterbug with boleos!
Dany ‘El Flaco’ Garcia’s brother is an awesome swing/jitterbug/rock ‘n roll dancer. Don’t know if he gives lessons, but he should. Ruben ( Cherie’s BF) can also dance a mean swing and he gives tango lessons, for sure.
That was called boogie or jive over here (Switzerland and France) I used to dance it a lot in the early 90ies. These days Lindy Hop is more common.
I want to learn how to do the Charleston! I bet Tangobaby knows how to do it!
My stepmother e-mailed me and told me that what I see in the milongas is more or less Lindy hop.
Too fun!
The structure of it is mostly West Coast Swing. Not to go into a dissertation on “slot dances” and all the forms of Swing, but I love throwing Tango moves into my WCS/Lindy as an embellishment…..swing is fun like that.
