Great post, Tina! You know, I never would have pegged the Italian café experience as being so rushed. I would have thought it was similar to Buenos Aires.

Well, people will take their time if they can, but they’ll still take their coffee standing up, as to sit down and get table service you have to pay extra. It is quite lovely, I must admit, to get a quick, last-minute shot of caffeine on my way somewhere. Italians are definitely caffeine addicts. ;-)
The part of the day that is a lot more slow and savored is the aperitivo after work. ;-) That’s always fun because there are usually tons of free snacks all along the bar!

No such thing a cafe culture in Eastern Connecticut as we are inundated with Drunkin Donuts and the occasional Starbucks!

Btw, the coffee culture in NYC is quite relaxed. I’m scared to get one in Catania, though! (I don’t really like coffee all that much anyway, hehe)
